LATEST: Police release name of man killed in Rusk Co. fire

Police have now identified the person killed in a Rusk County fire Wednesday morning.

According to the Rusk County Sheriff's Office, Robert J. Miller, 79, was killed when the house he was in started on fire at W7465 Flambeau Point Road, east of Ladysmith.

When fire crews arrived around 12:46 a.m., the entire house was on fire. Three people had made their way out of the house, but a fourth person was still inside.

The house is a total loss and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.

- Fire officials have announced where a fatal fire happened Wednesday morning, and the age of the person killed.

According to Ladysmith Fire Chief Kyle Gibbs, the fire was at a home at W7465 Flambeau Point Road, east of Ladysmith.

When fire crews arrived around 12:46 a.m., the entire house was on fire. Three people had made their way out of the house, but a fourth person was still inside.

Chief Gibbs said the person who died was a 79-year-old male. His identity is being withheld until family is notified.

The house is a total loss and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.


Rusk County (WQOW) - One person is dead following a house fire in Rusk County. 

According to the Rusk County Sheriff's Office, crews were called to a house fire Wednesday around 12:46 a.m.

The sheriff's office and three fire departments responded to find the entire house on fire, and believed a person might be inside.

While investigating the fire, a body was found inside the burnt house at about 8 a.m.

More information will be released by police once they identify the body.
