Alma (WQOW) -
Two people are in custody after a standoff at W10304 Kenny Road, town of Alma, Jackson County on Monday.

The Jackson County Sheriff's Office said authorities were serving an arrest warrant to the home based on a Chippewa County Sheriff's Office vehicle theft investigation. It was believed the stolen vehicle was in a large shed on the property.

Deputies said when they arrived, Juan Gabriel Aguilar, 44, pointed a rifle at officers and made threats. Authorities set up a perimeter and negotiated with Aguilar, but he continued to make threats toward law enforcement. Deputies also learned a woman and small child were also in the home.

After about an hour, Aguilar came out of the home, using the small child as a shield from law enforcement. Deputies said Aguilar challenged and charged at them.

Negotiations continued, and Aguilar eventually released the child and was quickly taken into custody.

Authorities said they found the stolen vehicle in the shed, as well as several firearms and drug paraphernalia in the home.

Deputies are recommending the following charges against Aguilar: Endangering Public Safety with the use of a Dangerous Weapon, Obstructing an Officer, Child Neglect, Receiving Stolen Property, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

Jolene Gadbois, 30, was also taken into custody on charges of Obstructing an Officer and Child Neglect.
