Eau Claire (WQOW)- It's not your average morning coffee. In Eau Claire Tuesday, caregivers and specialists gave people who suffer from memory loss an opportunity to socialize.
Seniors gathered at the Chippewa Valley Museum at the Eau Claire Memory Cafe, an event put on for Alzheimer's and dementia patients to laugh and have fun.
There are food, drinks and a program speaker.
Specialists said the event has been going on for four years with hopes to create a dementia friendly community in Eau Claire.
"A dementia friendly community is one where people who are living with memory loss or dementia feel safe to go out into the community where there is awareness," said dementia care specialist Lisa Wells. "People understand more about the disease, and that they can still be a part of their community instead of being isolated."
The memory cafe meets the second Tuesday of every month.
