Eau Claire (WQOW)- This Men's Health Week, it's a great time to call out the men in your life who come up with excuses not to go to the doctor.
Some of the leading causes of death in men include cardiovascular disease, stroke, and cancer. Men's Health Week serves as an awareness to preventable health problems.
Wednesday, News 18 sat down with some medical staff at HSHS Sacred Heart to find out some of the excuses men come up with to not see their doctor.
"A lot of times men when they're active working doing things, whether it's at work directly or outsides at their homes doing yard work for example, they might think they have a muscle ache, a joint pain or injury, and they come in thinking that's what the cause is, when really it could end up being something more serious such as a heart issue or a brain issue," said Andrea Erickson a physicians assistant at HSHS Sacred Heart.
"It's easy to just put it off one more day or say it's not that bad. It's not that bad and then all of the sudden a day becomes a week and that's really bad, also sometimes the feeling of that we have to be tough," said Jeffery Ellenbecker, a paramedic at HSHS Sacred Heart.
Ellenbecker said he's also heard patients say they don't have time, and there's probably nothing wrong.
He said some of the tips everyone should follow to stay healthy include being smoke free, exercise and get regular exams.
