Blue Angels pilot shares what makes the aircraft unique

Eau Claire (WQOW)- The Chippewa Valley Airshow is around the corner, which means you'll be seeing a lot of eyes looking to the skies.

The U.S. Navy Blue Angels arrived Wednesday, and Thursday News 18 got a chance to speak with pilot Jeff Mullins.

Mullins said what makes the Blue Angels unique is that they can do air-to-ground missions, they're stable and designed to land on carriers.

He said the Blue Angels can also fly very close to each other, as close as 18-inches apart, which was something that took time to get used to.

"It takes a long time to get comfortable with doing it, but you work from really far a part to really close together. It's just a lot of practice and hard work, yeah it's a little nerve wracking at first, but because we trust each other so much, we work together so well as a team, we get through that nervousness," Mullins said.

Mullins said one of his favorite parts about flying in air shows, is meeting new people.
