Eau Claire (WQOW) - The Chippewa River is expected to flood by Wednesday.
According to the City of Eau Claire, Monday morning the Chippewa River was about five feet below flood stage downtown - but that is going to change.
The river is expected to crest Wednesday about two feet above flood stage. At that point, the Chippewa River Trail and Old Abe Trail will be flooded, along with the pedestrian underpass at Madison Street, according to the city.
Portions of the Chippewa River Trail in Eau Claire are already closed.
Lower areas of Owen Park and Riverview Park will flood, along with the tennis courts. The boat launch and restrooms at Riverview Park will be closed.
Use extreme caution if you are using the rivers for boating, canoeing, kayaking, shore-side fishing, tubing, swimming, wading, or activities near the water. Hazards involving high water levels, strong currents, floating or submerged wood debris or trees.
