Chippewa Falls (WQOW) -- McDonell Central High School will be searching for a new head baseball coach, after the departure of Mitch Jacobson.

Jacobson took over as head coach last August, after several seasons as an assistant coach for both the Macks baseball and boys basketball programs.  In 2018, McDonell Central finished seventh in the Western Cloverbelt Conference, and then lost 10-9 to Pepin/Alma in a WIAA Division 4 regional quarterfinal.

In a news release, McDonell Central says Jacobson is leaving after accepting a teaching position in the River Falls school district.

McDonell Area Catholic Schools news release (Monday, July 2, 2018) --

McDonell Area Catholic Schools has accepted the resignation of Head Baseball Coach Mitch Jacobson.  We would like to wish Mitch and his family the best of luck as he continues his educational profession in the River Falls School District where he has accepted a teaching position.

Mitch’s value to the athletic program has been tremendous for the past six years, more recently as the school’s head baseball coach.

“As a 2007 graduate of McDonell, Coach Jacobson was able to bring his passion for McDonell and its athletic programs to the field.Coach Jacobson’s understanding and desire to put students first is unmatched. Combined with his knowledge of the game Mitch was able to lead McDonell, in his first year, to a very successful season even though the win / loss record may not show it,” said Athletic Director Archie Sherbinow. He went on to say, “Mitch will be tough to replace as a teacher and coach. His knowledge of McDonell and the Chippewa Falls community is invaluable.”

Mitch also served as an assistant baseball and basketball coach during his time at McDonell.

We wish Mitch, Kiersten and their son Christopher the very best of luck on their new adventure.
