MENOMONIE (WQOW) - A local restaurant is being recognized for making someone with disabilities feel included in the workplace.
Diablo Blue Bar and Grill in Menomonie is going to receive the National Disability Employment Awareness Month Award.
Owner Paul Wilkes said about a year ago, he hired a teen named Isaac Christison who has special needs.
For three days a week, Isaac comes in with his aide to portion food and help with cleaning.
Wilkes said Isaac is a great addition to their team and feels blessed and humbled about the recognition.
"Everyone deserves a chance," Wilkes said. "It's great to put him in the environment with our staff and give him senses of normalcy, which is huge. He's a great kid. He makes great jokes. He always calls me trouble when he sees me, but he's a hard worker."
Representatives from the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development will present Wilkes the award Wednesday, October 6 at Diablo.
