ALTOONA (WQOW) - River Prairie Park is being awarded by the Wisconsin Parks and Recreation Association for its accomplishments in park design.
Altoona City Manager Mike Golat said the award is exciting for the city because it is all-encompassing, recognizing the park for its aesthetics, community benefit and innovation.
The park has been open for a few years now and Golat said the main focus going forward is on programming and events at the park.
The city will officially be awarded in February, an honor Golat said he is grateful for.
"I'm most proud of how the community has embraced the park," he said. "It really truly is a source of pride for our community. And last year when we couldn't have our programming down here, especially our music, I heard loudly from the community how much they enjoyed the park and how much they missed it."
Golat said it is really the maintenance and programming park staff that earned them the award and make River Prairie Park special.
