EAU CLAIRE (WQOW) - Thursday marks 25 years since WQOW News 18's first broadcast. On October 14, 1996, anchors Mike Rindo and Kristin Everett welcomed viewers to a new choice for news.
"This is a special day at WQOW, the culmination of months of long hours and hard work," Everett said.
"We are delighted to be providing Chippewa Valley viewers with a new choice for news," said Rindo.
Between 1980 and 1990, this channel aired WQOW News Source 18. However, previous station owners closed down the Eau Claire news department, and this channel broadcast news from our sister station WXOW, located in La Crosse. We were off air from 1990 until October 14, 1996.
Our original station was located on Hastings Way, and for a few days in 2001, we were off the air as we moved into our current station off of Highway 93.
There are still several faces around the station who were here 25 years ago, including our original sports director Bob Bradovich, who now works in our sales department.
It has been a great 25 years being Eau Claire's Own news station. We can't wait for 25 more.
