CHIPPEWA COUNTY (WQOW) - The Wisconsin Department of Justice has released the names of the two people involved in last week's officer involved death in the Township of Goetz.

According to DOJ officials, Chippewa County Sheriff's Sergeant Martin Folczyk pulled over Lance R. Stelzer, 30, on his moped on October 8.

Officials said there was a physical altercation between the two during the stop. Stelzer sprayed Sgt. Folczyk with what the DOJ only described as a "substance." Folczyk then fired his weapon, striking Stelzer.

EMS attempted life-saving measures on Stelzer, but he died before getting to the hospital.

Folczyk has since been on administrative leave, as is the department's policy in officer-involved incidents. He has been in law enforcement for 20 years.

The officer involved death is under investigation by The Wisconsin Department of Justice Division of Criminal Investigation, and is being assisted by the Wisconsin State Patrol and Eau Claire Police Department.
