EAU CLAIRE (WQOW) - A local gym is changing its name, but a lot of services will stay the same.
What was formerly known as Gold's Gym is officially Eau Claire Fitness as of Thursday. Owner Laurie Powers said they did away with the Gold's franchise because their contract was ending, and they wanted to rebrand themselves as something very local.
Another reason was money. Powers said as part of the franchise agreement, she had to pay $3,500 a month to use Gold's name, but she believes the money could be better spent on taking care of members, instructors, and better equipment.
Although the name and paint job are new, Powers said they will still offer the same membership prices, classes, and amenities such as the pool and sauna.
"When this week arrived, and we knew this was the week, we said, 'we did it!' we took a picture of ourselves out in front of the sign, and there's just something really satisfying about taking a look back at this whole process and saying, 'with a lot of hard work and a lot of effort, it all came together.' We have a fantastic staff here and members," Powers said.
One change they did make was getting rid of their tanning beds and making room for a full-time, in-house chiropractor.
From October 18 to 24, Eau Claire Fitness is letting the public in for a free, week-long trial.
