ALTOONA (WQOW) - Be prepared to lay off the gas on a main road in Altoona, as the speed limit on parts of Highway 12 is now lower.
According to the Altoona Police Department, the speed limit on a stretch of Hwy 12 from McCann Drive to Hong Street is now 45 mph. That's down from 55 mph.
McCann Drive is near Altoona Family Restaurant and Hong Street is where Hwy 12 becomes a 2-lane road.
The reason for the change: the growing number of residential homes in that area.
