(WQOW) - If you skipped out on what TSA predicted to be one of the busiest travel days of the year Sunday, AAA officials said it may be better to wait until the weekday before you make your return plans.

According to AAA travel experts, the worst time to travel by car is from noon to 9 p.m. Sunday, especially if you're driving through metropolitan areas. If you're planning to depart or arrive by plane, plan ahead, and be proactive when making last minute travel plans.

"[We're] Still not back to where we were pre-pandemic, but still a lot of folks who maybe haven't traveled, been to the airport in over a year, maybe even since the pandemic began, so everyone should get there early, pack some extra patience and make sure you familiarize yourselves with the current policies and procedures for airport security before you get there," said Nick Jarmusz, director of public affairs, AAA Wisconsin.

AAA officials also recommend waiting until the weekday to avoid larger airport crowds, and consulting an agent for last minute flights.

No matter the form of transportation, AAA officials said travelers will need to be patient.
