EAU CLAIRE (WQOW) - On this edition of 'You Ask, We Answer' Sarah asked why is the former Pier 1 Imports building being painted?
The Pier 1 Imports building on Commonwealth Ave, has been vacant for over a year.
According to Eau Claire County records, the building was sold in mid July.
Now, the 10 thousand square foot building is currently being upgraded to prepare for new tenants, including a paint job and new parking lot.
The space is currently up for lease by the Caspian Group.
Realtors for the space said they plan to split the building to welcome 3 new tenants.
According to the Aaron White, Eau Claire's city economic development manager, it's perfect timing.
"When you're talking about empty for a year, that's it's not a real long term, if, as far as the city goes, as long as the owner keeps current on property taxes, it's a it's a minimal impact to the community, just from a strictly fiscal standpoint, as the city does not collect municipal sales tax. If we did, that would be a bigger impact, because that sale that loss of sales, tax revenue would directly impact the community," said White.
As for who will take up the space, the Caspian Group is still receiving inquiries and will not release the names of potential occupants, but said that local Minnesota franchises, restaurants and salons have all put their names in the hat.
Either way, Caspian Group officials said that they hope to have one business open next year.
