MENOMONIE (WQOW)- Two cross country runners will represent UW-Stout at the national races this fall, and one of them is a freshman.

Emily Cunningham will represent the Blue Devils at nationals in her first collegiate season. She finished the regional race as the lone Blue Devil in the top twenty, just quick enough to earn her a national berth.

"Going to nationals has always been one of my biggest goals," said Cunningham. "I didn't really expect to make it as a freshman, but super grateful that I did."

It's not the first rodeo for senior Spencer Schultz, who's qualified twice before with the Blue Devils. Unlike years past, this season he will run without teammates, and he hasn't ran much this season in general after dealing with injuries, but he's still got his sights set on putting Stout at the top of the leaderboard.

"The goal of the weekend is to get All-American," Schultz said. "I've been there twice and it hasn't happened. My biggest motivation is definitely doing it for the team, and I don't want to let them down, so I'm doing everything in my power to make them proud."

Schultz and Cunningham will run in the NCAA DIII Cross Country National Championship races on Saturday in Louisville, KY.
